This invigorating body scrub will remind you of summer in the middle of winter! Enjoy sweet aromas of lemongrass, grapefruit and bergamot while you polish your skin, leaving it soft and glowing.
Summer is my favorite season. I try to keep a bit of it with me during the rest of the year. Right now it's pouring rain outside here in San Diego, but no worries because this sweet lemon body scrub brings me right back to warm weather and bikinis...two musts in my life.
This scrub is super simple to make. I just used some brown sugar and almond oil I already had on hand, plus my favorite summery essential oils: bergamot, lemongrass and grapefruit.
Bergamot: If you haven't tried bergamot essential oil you must! It hands down brings a huge smile to my face whenever I smell it. It reminds me of the sun and visiting Italy (the first place it was ever sold was in Bergamo, Italy). It truly is a mood enhancing essential oil so if you're looking for something to lift your spirits, you'll definitely want to have some bergamot in your essential oil toolkit. As far as skincare benefits, bergamot is known for toning skin and reducing scarring.
Lemongrass: This is an essential that I use daily around the house. Lemongrass hails from Southeast Asia and has a fresh yet relaxing lemon-citrus smell that I LOVE. Lemongrass is known for its antiseptic, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties.
Grapefruit: I love the sweet smell of grapefruit essential oil, which reminds me of summer, warm weather and the beach! This essential oil is known for being antibacterial and anti-fungal, and is used regularly to combat acne. Some say it even reduces cellulite!
Sweet Lemon Invigorating Body Scrub
Directions and Usage:
Use 1 to 2 times a week.
- Fill jar almost to the top (about 7/8) with brown sugar, then transfer to a bowl.
- Add 7 or 8 tablespoons of almond oil to the brown sugar and stir. How much oil you add depends on whether you like your scrubs more on the oily side or more like a paste.
- Once the brown sugar and oil is blended, add 6 drops of bergamot, 6 drops of grapefruit, and 3 drops of lemongrass, stir again.
- Transfer scrub back to jar and enjoy!
Note: I always sterilize my DIY beauty containers first by placing them in boiling water for about five minutes and then letting them air dry and cool down before using them.
I keep my scrub out of the shower to prevent bacteria from forming due to water getting in the scrub. I recommend scooping out a bit for one time use, putting it in a cup or bowl and bringing that into the shower to use. That way you don't need to worry about bacteria forming and the scrub will last a lot longer!
