Benefits of Spirulina

Spirulina is known as an exotic fresh water plant superfood, with its main benefit being able to detox heavy metals from your body. Other benefits include reducing candida, blood pressure, chances of stroke plus helping to prevent cancer. It's also considered one of the most nutrient dense foods out there with high blend of protein, b vitamins, calcium and iron.

According to Wellness Mama, "Spirulina is a natural “algae” (cyanbacteria) powder that is incredibly high in protein and a good source of antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients. When harvested correctly from non-contaminated ponds and bodies of water, it is one of the most potent nutrient sources available."

Important Info When Using Spirulina

It's very important to buy high quality organic spirulina. We recommend this brand. Contaminated spirulina can cause harmful side effects. If you're healthy human being using uncontaminated spirulina, most likely you're fine to use it. According to Web MD, "Blue-green algae products that are free of contaminants, such as liver-damaging substances called microcystins, toxic metals, and harmful bacteria, are POSSIBLY SAFE for most people".

There are cautions against those that are pregnant or have an autoimmune disease using spirulina. More about that here. As always, do your research when using supplements!
